“WEITER WISSEN. Mit uns.”: Academic libraries launch joint campaign
Academic and scientific libraries are the driving force behind open science and society. They provide researchers, lecturers and students with research data and literature, they support research, teaching and studies with modern services and tools and often conduct their own research. At the same time, they support researchers with issues relating to publication formats and services as well as authorship and usage rights.
Under the motto ”WEITER WISSEN. Mit uns.” 13 major academic libraries in Germany are launching a campaign to make their unique work for science and society more visible. After all, the diverse services provided by libraries are a key element of high-quality research and science in Germany.
”Academic libraries are much more than just collections of books. They are guardians of knowledge, treasure troves of cultural heritage and dynamic interfaces that drive progress in research and development,” explains Prof Dr Sören Auer, Director of the TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library, which is one of a total of 13 scientific libraries participating in the campaign together with the German Library Association (dbv).
The TIB has been committed to openness in science for a long time: for freely available publications, research data and educational materials. It promotes transparent and collaborative methods in the research process. As a research institution, it is part of the digital transformation by developing innovative solutions for organising, providing, storing and using knowledge and operating digital services and platforms that facilitate research and teaching. By providing access to information and research results for all, as a scientific library it enables innovation and strengthens the foundations for ground-breaking discoveries.
”Our campaign WEITER WISSEN reflects the diversity of academic libraries and shows that they are essential partners for the scientific community in a world of constant change,” continues Auer.
The campaign is a joint initiative of the Badische Landesbibliothek, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, the Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen, the SLUB Dresden, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg Carl von Ossietzky, the Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig, the university libraries of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin,Freie Universität Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin, Mannheim University Library, TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library, ZB MED – Information Centre for Life Sciences and ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics together with the German Library Association e. V. (dbv).
