TIB Affiliation Policy

As of: 1. November 2021

Preamble

This guideline applies to all employees of the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB). It serves the clear and uniform designation of the TIB and thus the clear assignment of TIB members to their institution. This is intended to that publications for the benefit of the authors and the TIB are correct and can be completely recorded.

Scope of application

The defined name of the institution is used throughout the scientific publication process and wherever the institution is mentioned (e.g. lectures, research proposals, platforms like ORCID etc.).

Name of the institution

The official name of the institution as defined in the TIB Foundation Act:

Technische Informationsbibliothek”

Abbreviation: TIB”

Additional designations: Leibniz‐Informationszentrum Technik und Naturwissenschaften” und “Universitätsbibliothek”

Additional designations in English (not official): Leibniz Information Centre for Science and
Technology” and
University Library”

One of these variants is to be used in publications:

  • “Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB)” (independent of the publication language)
  • “TIB – Leibniz‐Informationszentrum Technik und Naturwissenschaften” or  – “TIB  Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology”

If necessary, the additional designation “Universitätsbibliothek” or “University Library” can be added. If a technical limitation prevents the complete name from being used, the abbreviation TIB must be used. The abbreviation is always written in capital letters.

Details in case of multiple institutional affiliation:

Some authors belong not only to the TIB, but also to another institution or change employer during the research and development phase publication process. Even in these cases, the TIB must always be mentioned as an affiliation.

Use of standardised identifiers for authors (ORCID)

TIB strongly recommends its authors to personally participate in ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and to use this identifier in everyday scientific work to facilitate the assignment of publications to their authors. Please make sure that the institution name is spelled correctly in your ORCID profile.

Use of standardised Facility Identifiers

Identifiers also exist for name-independent identification of institutions (see Appendix 1). These should be used when submitting publications, provided appropriate input fields for the affiliation are offered.

Information and advice

The Publication Services department supports and advises authors on questions concerning the application of this guideline as well as other questions concerning publishing.
